AM students in the Welding and Metal Fabrication program at CCCTC got hands-on experience simulating the production of truck bed covers. Students worked through key stages of the process including layout, bending and forming components, “welding” with UV resin to understand joint placement and technique, surface prep for finishing, and painting using paper applications to mimic real-world coating methods.

Throughout the activity, students also focused on teamwork, workflow efficiency, and quality control, learning how each step impacts the final product.

Julie Rothrauff, Program Development Manager of the Challenge Program, and Rachel Howard, CCCTC Welding graduate and People Operations Assistant for DiamondBack, oversaw the project, offering guidance, industry insight, and real-world connections to careers in manufacturing.
